Ok so the past few days has taught me a lot…here are some of those things:
1. I’m still horrible at mario kart and am destined to lose to 8 year old boys for the rest of my life…probably
2. Cooking for 5 is much different than cooking for 1, but its much more rewarding
3. Everyone in Germany speaks English. THANK GOODNESS
4. I’m still horrible at conversing with new people…especially when they are shy too.
Aside from these Aha! moments, I have been learning sooo much from the kids. They have taught me the following German words:
Apfel = Apple
Besen = Broom
Esel = Donkey
Affe = Ape
Nase = Nose
Limo = Lemonade
I feel like I’m learning so much already. In addition to my tiny German lessons, Nico has been teaching me all about the relationships between every monster imaginable. In case you didn’t know, ghosts wear clothes made of human skin, and zombies love to suck on eyeballs as candy.
Finni is so hilarious. He is constantly telling me jokes, for example: “Why do sharks swim in salt water? Because pepper water would make them sneeze!” He is also very adventurous. He is always begging me to go his secret back routes (which is horrifying when you barely know the regular routes home!).
These kids are so smart. It’s interesting to have dinner conversations about climate change and human migration and the 8 year old at the table making valid contributions. I am amazed at their vocabulary, and wit.
Thats all for today, but I love you all!
tschüss!
